Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved a four-week extension for the Borno State Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement Committee.
This move aims to ensure a thorough assessment of flood victims and provide relief to all affected individuals.
Devastating floods recently swept through Maiduguri, the state capital, and surrounding local government areas, resulting in widespread destruction, loss of lives, damage to homes, and disruption of livelihoods.
To address this, the committee was established to manage relief funds, which included donations from state governments, individuals, and corporate entities.
The committee's initial efforts successfully achieved a substantial part of its objectives, with over 5,235 households benefiting from the initial phase of relief item distribution.
However, Secretary to the Borno State Government, Mallam Bukar Tijani, in a statement on Tuesday, announced the extension, stating that the initial deadline was insufficient to adequately address the scope of the disaster.
'The governor has received the interim report and directed that the committee continue for another four weeks to complete the disbursement and assessment,' Tijani explained.
