In a significant move to address the economic challenges faced by civil servants in Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has directed the immediate implementation of the new national minimum wage.
He gave the directive during a meeting with the state's minimum wage implementation committee at the council chamber of the Government House on Monday.
During the meeting, the governor emphasized that civil servants should receive the new wage structure this month, underscoring the importance of this adjustment amidst Nigeria’s tough economic conditions.
This directive aligns with national efforts to ease the financial strain on public workers, who have been grappling with the rising cost of living which is also expected to provide substantial relief to workers across the state.
In addition to addressing current wage concerns, Gov. Zulum announced the approval of N3 billion for the payment of outstanding entitlements to families of deceased civil servants in Borno State.
In a symbolic gesture, he presented a cheque to the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, further assuring that the state government will clear the backlog of gratuities owed.
The governor also pledged an upward review of monthly pension payments, reflecting his administration's commitment to improving the welfare of both serving and retired public servants.
These measures come at a time when many Nigerian families are struggling with inflation and economic downturn, as they offer a tangible step toward addressing the long-standing financial concerns of Borno State’s civil servants and their families.
