In a move to reform Almajiri education, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has launched a summit to revolutionize the Almajiri education system, integrating Islamic and Western learning.
This initiative promises a brighter future for Almajiri children, equipping them with vital skills and knowledge.
At the Conference Hall of Musa Usman Secreteriat Maiduguri, stakeholders, religious leaders, and advocates have on Wednesday converged to discuss innovative strategies.
At the opening of the two-day summit, Gov. Zulum stressed that improper Islamic teaching has fueled insecurity and introduced reforms, including, a unified curriculum for Sangaya and Islamic schools, Higher Islamic Colleges blending religious and secular curricula and vocational training and literacy skills.
'The Sangaya reform is a great development and will give Almajiri a better chance in life, particularly the introduction of integrating western education, vocational, numeracy and literacy skills into the centres, which are also described as Almajiri and Islamic schools.
'Distinguished guests and esteemed educationists, government's intention was to streamline the informal and formal education systems to quality integrated Sangaya school for admission into colleges and universities,' he explained.
The move is aimed to streamline informal and formal education systems.
Professors Mustapha Gwadabe and Mohammed Alhaji emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive overhaul.
With this reform, Almajiri children can access quality integrated education, paving the way for university admission and future opportunities.
