Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has allocated N465 million and a designated space for the establishment of a National Orthopedic Hospital in Azare, Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.

This move aims to address the pressing need for specialized orthopedic care in the North East region.

The hospital will be established on the site of the existing General Hospital in Azare, which will be relocated.

Gov. Zulum explained that the state government will not only provide the hospital but also include staff quarters.

'We have General Hospital, Azare, belonging to Borno State Government. We will move them to another location and I have approved the sum of N465m for the rehabilitation of the hospital. We are not only giving the hospital but including the staff quarters,' Gov. Zulum said.

He also assured that the state government will provide additional support if needed to realize the dream of establishing the national orthopedic hospital.

'In addition to this, if there is any need, the state government can support you in realising the dream of establishing the national orthopaedic hospital. The federal government might own the hospital, but who are the beneficiaries? Who will use the hospital? The greatest beneficiaries are the people of Borno State,' the governor added.

The governor's announcement was made during a meeting with members of the accreditation team from the federal ministry of health, led by Dr. Jimoh O. Saludeen.

The team was in Azare to assess the proposed site for the hospital, following the president's approval.

Dr. Saludeen commended Gov. Zulum for his support and leadership, which has been instrumental in driving development in Borno State.

The delegation also included representatives from the federal ministry of health, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Borno State Government.
