Governor Babagana Umara Zulum's recent tour of Southern Borno has brought significant development to the region, focusing on education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

This move is part of his administration's efforts to integrate non-formal education into the formal system and improve the lives of children and women.

Education and healthcare initiatives

The governor commissioned the Damboa Higher Islamic College and a junior secondary school in Garjang, Damboa Local Government Area, addressing the challenges associated with the growing number of children completing primary education in the region.

He also approved six additional projects in Chibok and Damboa Local Government Areas, including ICT centers and school rehabilitations.

Under the 'Back-to-School' program, approximately 2,000 school pupils received school uniforms, textbooks, and bicycles to ease movement from distant villages.

A N50 million grant was approved for the High Islamic College in Damboa to facilitate its day-to-day operations.

In the healthcare sector, Gov. Zulum approved the rehabilitation of Uba General Hospital and township road networks.

He also directed the employment of four medical doctors for the General Hospital, Uba, to boost the workforce.

Also, the governor announced the construction of a new palace complex for the Emir of Uba and approved the construction of a deep aquifer borehole for the High Islamic College, Uba.

Infrastructure development

To enhance connectivity and accessibility, Gov. Zulum approved the rehabilitation of eight primary schools in Uba town, including Uba Central Primary School, Mufa A Primary School, and Kuma Primary School, construction of a new secondary school and rehabilitation of the central primary school in Uvu village, Askira-Uba Local Government.

He also approved the rehabilitation of Wovi Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, Government Girls Technical School, Government Day Secondary School in Damboa Local Government Area and construction of township road networks in Uba.

Benefits for children and women

These initiatives will greatly benefit children and women, particularly in education and healthcare.

Women and children are the primary users of healthcare facilities in any community, so these initiatives will bring much-needed relief and improvement to their lives.

The education sector enhancements will help reduce the rate of out-of-school children in the state.
