Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has called on the military to intensify efforts to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram in the Lake Chad region.

He made the call on Wednesday while attending the 2025 Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF Operation Desert Sanity 2 Medal Parade in Ndjamena, Chad.

Despite acknowledging significant progress in the fight against insurgency in the North East, the governor's call to action came as he announced a N300 million donation to support the families of fallen soldiers through the 'Tribute to our troops charity foundation.'

This foundation is designed to honor fallen heroes, appreciate serving personnel, and provide support to their families.

'The Chief of Defence Staff has set up a foundation that will look into the welfare of the families of the deceased soldiers and those who were wounded in action.

'There is nothing we can do better than this; they sacrificed their lives to pay the supreme price. We shall continue to support them. If there is any one state in Nigeria that should key in to support this foundation, it is Borno,' Gov. Zulum said.

He reiterated that while challenges remain, the insurgency in the North East has significantly decreased.

He urged the military to intensify efforts to eliminate remaining Boko Haram elements across the Lake Chad region.

The MNJTF medal parade, first held in 2017, recognizes the sacrifices and commitment of troops and commanders fighting Boko Haram in countries around the Lake Chad Basin.

The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to combating insecurity in the North East and across Nigeria.

'Let me commend the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for the leadership he has provided, motivating the troops and giving the direction needed to provide lasting peace in Nigeria,' he said.
