Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the Dikwa-Marte road — a key route connecting the central and northern parts of the state — to ensure smooth and safe passage for commuters ahead of the rainy season.

In response to the directive, the Borno State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA) has completed palliative repairs on the road, which serves as a vital lifeline for thousands of residents, including returnee internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Executive Chairman of BORMA, Engr. Sadu Auno, confirmed the development on Thursday, noting that the governor’s instruction was treated with urgency to prevent the road from further degradation.

'The Executive Governor expressed serious concern about the condition of the road and instructed that we act immediately without waiting for the rains to start. We mobilized quickly, and I’m pleased to report that the palliative works have now been completed,' Auno stated.

He explained that the repairs involved grading severely affected sections, filling potholes, and reinforcing weak segments to guard against erosion and potential washouts during the rains.

While disclosing that comprehensive rehabilitation plans are underway pending further assessments and funding, Auno emphasized that the immediate goal was to preserve the road’s condition and ensure continued access for communities that rely heavily on it.

'This road is not just a route, it’s a vital connection for communities recovering from conflict. Keeping it motorable is essential for the safety, mobility, and economic activities of our people,' he added.
