Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the deployment of 35 operational vehicles and motorcycles to Izge town to enhance the collaborative security efforts between the Nigerian military and local youth volunteers.
This move aims to significantly improve the mobility and rapid response capabilities of the joint security apparatus, enabling them to respond swiftly to potential threats and support military operations more effectively.
The newly allocated fleet includes 5 Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles and 30 motorcycles, designed to amplify the security presence in the area.
Izge town has endured a series of brutal attacks by terrorists, which tragically resulted in the loss of officers from the Nigerian Army. Despite these challenges, the community has shown remarkable resilience.
During an on-the-ground assessment visit to Gwoza on Thursday, Gov. Zulum acknowledged the bravery and strong partnership between the military and the community in defending Izge.
The governor emphasized his administration's commitment to understanding and addressing the pressing security needs of the community.
'Our observations about potential increases in insurgent activity are not intended as a critique of the military's efforts, but rather a necessary assessment of the evolving security landscape,' he clarified.
'We will leverage every available resource to maintain law and order here and ensure the safety and security of Izge and its people.'
The governor delivered a powerful message of solidarity and reassurance to the residents of Izge, assuring them that their resilience and bravery in the face of adversity are deeply inspiring.
He also announced plans to facilitate the return of families to their homes in areas such as Ashigasha, Warabe, Guduf, Wala, and other smaller villages, as security conditions continue to improve.
