The Borno State Chapter of the Cricket Association of Nigeria recently organized a three-day clinical workshop for game masters and game mistresses in the state.
The workshop, held at the Computer Laboratory 'B' of Government College Maiduguri, aimed to equip coaches with the basic technicalities of the game of cricket.
According to the Chairman of the Borno State Chapter of Cricket, Hon. Usman Danjuma Ibrahim Elduim, the workshop was designed to inculcate skills and knowledge in the participants, emphasizing that cricket is a game for everyone that promotes healthy living and safe play.
Hon. Elduim, who is also the organizer and sponsor of the workshop, noted that over 100 participants have shown interest in the game, but the workshop was limited to 30 participants as approved by the National Federation of Cricket.
He called on the national body of cricket to provide more opportunities for interested individuals and create a space that would accommodate them.
The workshop was attended by coaches from the Borno State Sports Council and game masters and mistresses from various schools.
Alhaji Bura Mustapha Alesadiyaye, Executive Secretary of the Borno State Sports Council, praised the organizers and participants, urging game masters to share their newfound skills with colleagues who were not fortunate enough to attend the training.
He also encouraged well-to-do individuals in the state to emulate Hon. Eldum's leadership and support for cricket in Borno State.
Coach Huzaifa Abdulsalam, the facilitator from Adamawa State, expressed satisfaction with the participants' enthusiasm and commitment, noting that they had promised to share their knowledge and skills with others and take the game of cricket to a greater height.
Participants, including Marry A. Mselia of Girls Child Concern School and Ali Ibrahim Dikwa from the Borno State Ministry of Education, appreciated the opportunity to learn and engage with the game. Marry A. Mselia expressed her joy and happiness for the opportunity given to participate, while Ali Ibrahim Dikwa acknowledged the efforts of the Chairman in keeping the game of cricket engaging.
Innocent Micheal Adamu's remarks on the workshop, he appreciated the efforts of the organizers and urged the game masters to keep engaging youths with sports.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants, distribution of cricket gadgets to participants from various schools, and a group photograph.
The organizers hope to continue promoting cricket in Borno State and developing the skills of game masters and coaches.
