The Network of Civil Society Organisations Borno State (NECSOB) in collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) held a one-day consultative review meeting on the implementation of the regional stabilisation strategy in Borno State.
The meeting, held at Amada International Hotel in Maiduguri, aimed to brainstorm ways to bring back resilience to vulnerable people in the region affected by over a decade of Boko Haram crises.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the implementation of the regional stabilisation strategy in Borno State.
Given the cut-off of aid from some donor agencies, the objective was to find ways to bridge gaps and build resilience among people in the region.
The LCBC has been involved in efforts to address regional security, development challenges, and stabilization in the Lake Chad Basin, which includes Borno State.
In an interview with journalists, Executive Director of NECSOB and Regional Coordinator of LCBC, Comrade Bulama Abiso, said the program is about LCBC where the regional stabilisation strategy will be reviewed by CSOs to see how they can collaborate with LCBC to undertake activities of the regional stability station.
'Today, we are reviewing how we are going to robustly partner with the LCBC in order to achieve stability in the region, we are putting our hands together to achieve it,’ Comrade Abiso said.
He emphasized that the program aims to build resilience, revive economic activities, and livelihoods in the region.
He noted that due to funding cuts, including the pulling away of USAID, there is a need for locally organized CSOs to take charge of what is happening in the region.
'So, there is need for locally organised CSOs to take charge of what is happening in the region.
We want to look inwards with LCBC with something that is very common in us, so that we also contribute locally both funding, resources all to this programme,' he explained.
The program encompasses efforts to bring synergy between the four countries of the Lake Chad Basin.
Comrade Abiso added that colleagues in different territorial areas are doing similar work and that a meeting in Chad Republic is planned for next week to harmonize positions and look at cross-border areas where CSOs can help one another.
