The Borno State Police Command has announced that it will begin full enforcement of the prohibition and regulation of tinted vehicle glasses on October 2, 2025.

The Command reminded the public that the use of tinted vehicle windows without a valid police permit remains prohibited under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, the Road Traffic Act, 2004, and other relevant laws.

According to the Command, all vehicle owners using factory-fitted or aftermarket tinted glasses for security or medical reasons must obtain the necessary permit from the Nigeria Police Force.

Failure to comply with the law will attract penalties as stipulated by existing regulations.

Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso said vehicle owners are strongly advised to apply for or renew their permits before the enforcement date to avoid sanctions.

He noted that permits can be processed and registered online through the official portal: https://possap.gov.ng.

The Command explained that the enforcement exercise has become necessary due to ongoing security challenges in the state.

Criminal elements, according to police reports, have been found using vehicles with heavily tinted windows to conceal weapons, abduct victims, and evade security checks.

Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed all officers involved in the exercise to act professionally and avoid any unethical conduct during enforcement.

He also warned that disciplinary actions would be taken against any personnel found violating operational guidelines.

The police appealed for public cooperation and support, stressing that the move is aimed at enhancing security and ensuring the safety of all residents of Borno State.
