Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has commissioned three key projects in Gwoza Local Government Area in the southern part of the state on Monday.
The commissioned projects included the Gwoza College of Nursing and Midwifery, a block of 20 modern teachers’ quarters, and 200 newly constructed lock-up shops at the Gwoza Main Market.
The governor said 'the commissioning symbolized a new phase in the history of Gwoza, moving from years of destruction and rebuilding to deliberate investment in life and development.'
He described the nursing college as an institution designed to preserve, nurture, and celebrate life while serving as a center for professional training in healthcare.
The governor highlighted the college’s modern facilities, which include laboratories, a library, simulation rooms, and furnished classrooms, noting that it would tackle the persistent shortage of skilled healthcare workers in the state.
He explained that for years, Borno had relied on importing healthcare professionals from other regions, which he described as an unsustainable and vulnerable model.
He said 'the new institution would serve as a permanent solution to the state’s healthcare manpower deficit.'
The governor also commissioned 20 teachers’ quarters to provide decent accommodation for teachers, improve their welfare, and enhance the quality of education.
He further inaugurated 200 market shops aimed at revitalizing local commerce, boosting the economy, and increasing the state’s internally generated revenue.
