Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on Muslims to embrace piety, charity, and moderation as key virtues, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking on Sunday at the Annual Ramadan Lecture held at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, the governor emphasized that Ramadan serves as a time for fostering resilience, patriotism, and communal harmony.

Prof. Zulum, who was the special guest of honour at the event, urged Muslims to remain steadfast in prayers, promote religious tolerance, and engage in philanthropic endeavors.

He stressed that Muslims should serve as exemplary ambassadors of Islam by fostering unity and understanding with people of other faiths.

The event featured a lecture titled "Navigating Economic Difficulties in Nigeria through Reliance on Allah," delivered by Prof. Badmus Olanrewaju Yusuf.

In his speech, Prof. Yusuf encouraged Muslims to uphold the principles of divine reliance, equitable resource distribution through Zakat and Sadaqah, and compassion for the less privileged.

He cautioned against wasteful spending and immoral behavior during Ramadan, urging Muslims to embody discipline and self-restraint as prescribed by Islamic teachings.

Also at the event, Gov. Zulum donated N50 million on behalf of the Borno State Government to aid charitable activities and promote communal harmony within the OAU Muslim Community.

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN), expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s generosity, commending his dedication to fostering unity across Nigeria.

He further urged Muslim leaders nationwide to support similar charitable initiatives, which he described as essential for promoting godliness, civic responsibility, and philanthropy.
