In a bid to enhance reliance against flooding and improve access to clean water, Thinklab Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Thinklab Group, has donated N5 million to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) to support flood mitigation and water access initiatives in Yobe State.
In a statement on Friday by the spokesman of Thinklab, Musa Gwary, the donation aims to address the critical needs of communities displaced by flooding, which has affected thousands of people in the state.
Recently, floods have displaced many people in Yobe, with many more affected by the destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
The situation is dire, with residents struggling to access basic necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare.
The floods have destroyed over houses and farmlands across communities.
The Thinklab Foundation's donation will be channeled toward flood mitigation efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding in vulnerable communities and enhance community resilience.
Additionally, the funds will be used for the construction of a motorized borehole to provide clean water and address water scarcity issues in the affected areas.
Mohammed Goje, Executive Secretary of YOSEMA, expressed gratitude for the support, assuring that the funds would be used effectively to benefit households in flood-prone areas.
The donation underscores Thinklab Foundation's commitment to corporate social responsibility and community welfare, focusing on public health and improved living conditions.
Gwary said that this initiative is part of Thinklab Foundation's broader efforts to support communities in North-East Nigeria, complementing government efforts in emergency response and community development.
'With the increasing threat of flooding due to climate change, this intervention is crucial for promoting resilience and ensuring access to basic amenities for affected communities,' he added.
